Of Red and Gold
“The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold”
Autumn is a season of contradictions, a moment of abundance just before things begin to fade. Of Red and Gold takes its title from this tension, bringing together works that reflect on the point where fullness begins to give way to absence.
Red and gold embody this tension in different ways. “Red” suggests vitality, blood, passion, but also warning and decay, the intensity of a moment just before it passes. “Gold” evokes harvest, value and light, but also preservation, something made precious, gilded, and held against the passage of time. Together, the two colors speak of transition, like a leaf at its brightest just before it falls.
At the heart of the exhibition is a reflection on endings that can also feel like moments of fulfillment, on maturity, memory, and the particular beauty of things that are temporary. Autumn is not simply a season of loss. It is perhaps the moment when the year speaks most vividly, through color.
