Oro Lucem – I Pray for the Light, by Zad Moultaka for Centre d’Art La Falaise, Cotignac – France

Oro Lucem – I pray for the light is a work created for Centre d’Art La Falaise, Cotignac – France, visual and sound installation shining brightly in the middle of some thirty works.

Oro Lucem – I pray for the light is the third and final part of a triptych following Oro Tenebris and Oro Terram, exhibitions initiated in Lebanon in 2024. The metal leaf – that versatile, fleeting, dazzling material that can evoke warmth, clarity or protection – is replaced by survival blankets, extending a reflection on the troubled times we are living through by we are living along? Throughout the interplay of light and vibration, the invocation of gold, fire or water plunges us into a mysterious and enigmatic space, a feeling reinforced by telluric music as if coming from the depths of the earth or from a space on the other side of the walls. Could there be something beyond our visible world?

Oro Tenebris – I pray to the darkness, the first part of Oro is a quest for an interior space of spirituality lost to the dormant clinker. At this stage, the abysmal blackness of the cracks becomes luminous scars emerging from the darkness, just like the dazzling glow of the golden panels of the renaissance, we can only fight shadows with excess of light.

Oro Terram – I pray the earth is a counterpoint to the exhibition Oro Tenebris, listening, imploring the darkness, the body elevated between sky and earth, the night is the path leading to the light as black. This section, comprising some twenty works on canvas and paper is completed by the Lahab installation: a ‘sun’ of 4m diameter with its 100m long trail of a golden carpet takes place in the large courtyard at the entrance to the Beiteddine palace, as if to attract celestial energies and immerse our bodies in a collective luminous purification.
