Katara Art Center is honored to present Lebanese artist Abed Al Kadiri and his impactful charitable project, *”Today, I Would Like to Be a Tree.”* This initiative is a powerful artistic and humanitarian reaction to the ongoing conflict and severe attacks on Lebanon and its people since September 2024.
Over eight days, Al Kadiri will work on an in situ mural, using the image of a tree as a symbol of resilience and resistance. The tree bends beneath bombardment, groaning, and perhaps even buckling from the pain—but it refuses to die. The mural may show trees trembling in response to scenes of devastation, displacement, and intentional violence. Even so, the tree’s branches will reach out, offering shade and comfort to families uprooted from their homes for over a month.
Proceeds from the art sales will go directly to the Qatari Red Crescent Society, supporting displaced Lebanese families.
Please join us for the mural unveiling on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 6 PM, at Katara Art Center, Building 5, The Cultural Village, Doha.
