Charlotte Mumm
ARTIST BIO
Born in 1980 in Georgsmarienhütte, Germany.
Lives and works in Germany and the Netherlands
Working with multiple media, Charlotte Mumm crosses the lines between painting, drawing, sculpture and installation. In her work that sits within abstract and figurative, she often deals, inter alia, with the question of communicative failure and positioning within an individual and among one another. Abstracting these themes often bring her to the question of the presence of things.
Charlotte Mumm studied Fine Arts with Porf. Urs Lüthi from 2000 to 2007 at Kunsthochschule Kassel. From 2002 until 2003 she studied at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, China in the graduating class of Prof. Yang Shu. At that time being one of the very few foreign students in this megacity, this cultural experience changed her way of looking at her work and world around her. She graduated in 2008 as Master Student of Professor Urs Lüthi. In that year she also received the Art Prize for Sculpture and Installation from the Art Foundation Öffentliche Versicherungen Oldenburg as well as the Art Prize Kassel of the Dr. Wolfgang Zippel Foundation.
Her work has been exhibited at galleries, festivals, and museums in Germany and internationally. To name a few: Stadtmuseum Oldenburg, Kasseler Kunstverein, Märkisches Museum Witten, Kunstverein Trier, Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven, Centrum Beeldende Kunst Zuidoost, Amsterdam (NL), Museum of Art Chongqing in China, Museum 25th May in Belgrade (RS).
