Randa Mirza

Artist Biography

Born in 1978, Randa Mirza is a visual artist, working mainly with photography and video. Mirza explores the notion of identity: she seeks to review normalized, gendered and orientalist representations by making visible the current symbolic, social and political constructs. Through her work, Mirza questions the nature of images and their social uses. She manipulates the photographic image to reveal the discourses inherent in all representations, on the tenuous border between fiction and reality.

Mirza has received numerous prizes, including the NO LIMIT award at Les Rencontres Photographiques d’Arles (2006). Mirza’s solo exhibitions include shows at Les Rencontres d’Arles 2019, the Finnish Museum of Photography, Sfeir-Semler gallery (Hamburg) and Galerie Tanit (Beirut and Munich). She exhibited collectively within Moving Walls (NY), Phillipes de Pury (London), FIAC (Paris), Miami Basel, Armory Show (NY), ParisPhoto (2011-2014-2017), Fondazione Merz (Torino), Witte de with (Rotterdam), Fotomuseum Winterthur (Zurich), Darat al-Funun (Amman), Aleppo international photography festival (Syria), Fotofestival MannheimLudwigshafen- Heidelberg (Germany), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), ZKM museum (Germany) and Beirut Art Center and Sursock museum(Lebanon).

Randa Mirza is represented by Galerie Tanit Beirut/Munich.
