Galerie Tanit is pleased to present but you are beautiful – that compensates for your laziness, an exhibition of new work by Charlotte Mumm. This exhibition will feature works on paper, wood, porcelain as well as sculptural works.

Charlotte Mumm has developed her very own imagery, which does not give rise to preconceived interpretations but opens up a new vision in the realm between figuration and abstraction. Her paintings, which depict animal-like and imaginary creatures meeting human figures, ornamental shapes and landscapes, express a highly narrative and sensual form of imagery. Through her choice of installation within the gallery space Mumm creates relationships between works and thus emphasizes their narrative quality.

Her love of experimentation is particularly palpable with her sculptural works. Mumm uses an array of materials, such as paper, fabric, wood, plaster, and frequently objets trouvés, which she processes autonomously in separate stages to conclude in one hybrid structure. During creation she often works on the structure with dyed epoxy resin or a series of lacquers. The result is a powerful play between colour and material that adds to the strong spatial presence of the sculptures. Not least, it is Mumm’s sense of humour that imparts her paintings and sculptures with their particular lightness.

Charlotte Mumm (born 1980 in Georgsmarienhütte, Germany) studied from 2000 to 2007 at Kunsthochschule Kassel, and graduated in 2008 as Master Student of Professor Urs Lüthi. but you are beautiful – that compensates for your laziness will be Mumm`s first solo exhibition in Munich.
